Linepack Data

This page provides access to data detailing Linepack data.

The quantity of natural gas contained in a pipeline is referred to as "linepack". This is calculated by multiplying the geometrical pipeline volume by the compressibility factor (Z-factor). The Z-factor depends on the absolute pipeline pressure, gas temperature and gas composition.

If injection into the distribution area does not precisely match withdrawals from it - as is normally the case - the contents of the pipeline, or linepack, are bound to change.

The Actual pages provide access to Actual Linepack data.

The Change In pages provide access to Change In Linepack data. National Grid is incentivised to minimise day-on-day linepack changes and this data set monitors those changes.

The Closing pages provide access to Closing Linepack data. This represents the estimate of linepack by the end of the gas day.

The Opening pages provide access to Opening Linepack data. This represents the estimate of linepack by the start of the gas day.

The Opening (Interim) pages provide access to Opening (Interim) Linepack data. This represents the estimate of linepack by the end of the previous gas day.

The PCLP1 pages provide access to Predicted Closing Linepack (PCLP1) data. This is the previous days predicted closing linepack plus latest supply estimates minus latest demand estimates.

The PCLP2 pages provide access to Predicted Closing Linepack (PCLP2) data. This is the previous days predicted closing linepack plus latest supply estimates minus latest demand estimates.
